Most often, she shows, sisters are destabilizing figures in narratives about family crisis, where property, patrimony, and the resilience of community boundaries are at risk. Kalmanofsky demonstrates the particular role of sisters had important narrative effects, revealing previously underappreciated dynamics in Israelite society.
